Our Teaching Philosophy

Our Teaching Philosophy:

Every Child Can Learn

At Truehart Violin Studios, we believe in character first and ability second. This means that when we teach students how to properly hold the bow, play in tune, and create beautiful sound, we are always looking for opportunities to teach our students the skills they need to succeed in whatever they choose to do in life. We love that learning a string instrument teaches students grit, resilience, confidence, patience, creativity, communication and leadership skills. Our goal is to bring out the best in every child!

As registered Suzuki teachers who also have experience with traditional models of teaching, we are equipped to bring the best of both worlds into the studio. We believe that teaching students to play by ear unlocks a whole world of musical possibilities- students who can play by ear can play anything they hear! We also believe that learning to read music is deeply important, and though we delay reading in the early days of study to focus on posture, positioning, and learning to play by ear, we make reading a top priority as early as the end of Suzuki volume 1 for younger students and even earlier for older beginners.

When a student begins studying with us, we love developing a strong relationship with the whole family. We believe that a strong relationship between the student, parent, and teacher, known as the “Suzuki triangle,” is vital for the child’s success. Parents of students at Truehart Violin Studios should expect to be very involved in their child’s study by attending every lesson, taking notes, and practicing with their child daily at home. With younger children, parents often learn some beginning techniques during violin lessons so that they are better equipped to help their child practice. Many of our parents have a lot of fun learning to play right alongside their children!

As experienced educators, we understand that no two children learn the same way. That’s why we tailor our lessons to each student’s learning style and regularly consult with both parents and students to aid in their growth. Our studio is full of students who practice diligently seven days a week, and we strive to make assignments as clear and fun as possible!

Lastly, we are passionate about giving violin lessons to students of all ages. Children are rarely too young to begin their studies and adults are never too old! We currently have students ranging in age from four year old to adult who play at many different levels from beginner to advanced. If you are ready to begin your string playing journey, book a consultation with us today!

“Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline, and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.”

-Shinichi Suzuki
